New Year flowers for clients and bosses in Bangkok: the corporate gifting guide
Thai New Year gifting has rules that nobody writes down: what goes up the hierarchy, what goes sideways, and why a basket beats a bouquet nine times out of ten. A guide for the person doing the company's list.
In the last two weeks of December, Bangkok offices swap gifts the way other cities swap cards. Someone is handed a list — clients, the landlord, the auditor, the boss's boss — and told to sort it by Friday. This is for that person.
Up the hierarchy: baskets
For a senior client or an executive, send a fruit-and-flower basket or a vase arrangement in gold and red. It reads as respect, it sits in a reception for a week, and it disappears gracefully. Oranges carry the prosperity meaning that matters to Thai-Chinese business families; a box of oranges with roses is a New Year classic.
Sideways: something smaller, the same day
Peers and partners get a compact arrangement, delivered to the office in the 12:00–15:00 window when people are at their desks. The card matters more than the size: name the person, not the company.
The card
Put the message in the order note. Thai is fine, English is fine; what to avoid is the generic "Season's greetings" that could be from anyone. One sentence about the year you had together does the work.
The list
- Get the building, floor and a reachable number for every recipient — reception cannot deliver to a name alone.
- Send everything on the 26th–29th. The 30th and 31st are half-days and people are already gone.
- For invoices in a company name, message us on LINE with the tax details when you order.
Book the whole list at once on the New Year page; late December fills early, and the lead-time guide explains why.
