Shop-opening flowers in Bangkok: garlands, stands, and what each says
A Thai grand opening has its own floral grammar: the garland on the sign, the standing arrangement at the door, the vase for the owner's desk. What each piece means, who sends which, and the timing that gets it there before the monks.
Openings in Bangkok are a morning affair: the blessing ceremony early, then the ribbon, then the photographs, then lunch. The flowers are already in place before any of it. If you are sending as a partner, a supplier, a friend or a landlord, the question is not "what looks nice" but "which piece is mine to send".
The garland: for the sign and the spirit house
A phuang malai — a marigold and jasmine garland — goes on the shop sign, the door frame and the spirit house. Marigold is the colour of merit, jasmine of purity. This is usually the owner's own offering, or the family's. If you are close family, ask before sending one; if you are a business contact, it is not yours to send.
The standing arrangement: for the door
The tall arrangement outside the entrance, with a ribbon naming the sender, is the business contact's piece. It says publicly that this company wishes that company well. Yellow and gold read as prosperity; red and gold suit Thai-Chinese businesses; white is avoided. Put the sender's name exactly as it should appear on the ribbon in the order note. For a standing piece, message us on LINE first — it is made to order.
The vase or basket: for the owner
Friends and smaller partners send something for the desk or the counter: a vase in yellow tones, or a fruit basket for the staff. It lasts the first week, which is when the owner most needs to see it.
Timing
Everything must be in place before the ceremony, which often starts at 07:00 or 09:09. Order ahead on the congratulations page and choose the earliest window the day before, or the morning window if the ceremony is late morning. Name the shop, the soi and a phone number of someone who will be there early — new shops are not on the map yet.
